It’s 32 days until Christmas, my tree is up (don’t judge), the presents are all wrapped (smug. Moi?) and now it’s time to soak up the Christmas festivities.
Well, not quite. I still need to purchase this year’s obligatory party dress.
Parties, never mind Christmas is all about the sparkle in my opinion. Whether it be a subtle glitter liner on the eye to a sequin and feather skirt – a good knee’s up deserves a dressing up!
Last year I played it safe with an LBD that was fit for every occasion but this winter, there is one dress that has caught my eye and I simply can’t imagine wearing anything else.
It’s extravagant. It’s unique. It’s utterly stunning. And it’s fall off your chair expensive.
Meet Alexander McQueen’s Lion silk-jacquard kimono cape.
With its gorgeous festive colour palette of red and gold and its lion silk jacquard textile – it is like a work of art adorning the body. It screams ‘look at me’ while maintaining an air of sophistication and class with a just little bit of arrogance and a hint of gaudiness thrown into the mix. This is no shrinking violet.
There is a heap of reasons I have fallen in love with this dress. It reminds me of a kimono I used to wear as a dress in my younger, fitter days. It’s the one dress that made me feel irresistible, I looked in the mirror and I loved what was staring back at me. A dress that can deliver this should be cherished.
Not only that, the beautiful kimono sleeves will keep my pasty winter limbs warm and hidden away in the cold weather. The cinched in waist line and beautiful pleating is flattering on the silhouette as well as its neckline being very kind to a well endowed lady. It’s the dress that will get you noticed for all the right reasons!
And yet, despite being the dress that has it all, it is still so versatile. You can certainly change it up for each occasion from the works night out to hitting the town with the girls, simply by adding a belt or a pair of opaque tights or clashing with different coloured jewellery like the blue YSL Arty Ring I am making my husband buy me for Christmas. (That’s right, he’s had his orders and yes, I am a fashion victim).
It all boils down to this though… it costs £6,595. *gulp*
And with that I close down the web browser and weep into my mulled wine. I doubt Topshop will be stocking a decent copy anytime soon so I am stuck with an image in my head and a dream in my heart of what could have been.
